Information kept on your Mac

BackDrop stores settings, imported background images, cached information and generated wallpapers locally on your Mac. It reads selected calendar events, notes, reminders and recent email headers for the content you enable. BackDrop does not upload that personal content or your generated wallpapers to RUKN servers.

Information included in an applied wallpaper is part of the wallpaper image. Anyone who can see your desktop, including through screen sharing or screenshots, may see it. Your source apps may separately sync through iCloud or their account providers.

Permissions BackDrop may request

• Calendar: to read selected events for the Calendar and Upcoming blocks.
• Location: to use approximate location for local weather and prayer times.
• User-selected files: to read an image you choose or drag into User Image.
• Reminders: to read incomplete tasks from the reminder lists you choose.
• Automation: to read your selected Apple Note or recent Apple Mail headers.

You can manage these permissions in macOS System Settings. Revoking access may prevent the related feature from working.

External services

BackDrop is not fully offline. It uses:

• Apple Weather: approximate location is used to retrieve local weather.
• AlAdhan: approximate location and prayer settings are used for prayer calculations, and Hijri calendar data is retrieved where required.
• Hebcal: Jewish calendar requests include the year and your Israel or diaspora observance setting.
• OpenHolidays: public holiday requests include the selected country and date range. BackDrop filters the returned holidays for your selected subdivision locally.

Christian calendar dates are calculated locally. If you use an Apple holiday calendar, BackDrop reads its events instead of requesting OpenHolidays data.

External requests expose your network IP address to the receiving service. Personal notes, reminders, email headers and calendar event details are not included in these weather or holiday requests. See Sources & Credits for provider links.

Those services process requests under their own terms and privacy policies.

No BackDrop account, advertising, or social feed

BackDrop is a focused Mac utility. It does not ask you to create a BackDrop account, does not include advertising, and does not publish selected wallpapers or desktop activity to a social feed.

Awake and startup

Awake manages manual sleep-prevention sessions locally. Its optional wallpaper metrics describe system activity and are not sent over the network. It does not inspect Terminal activity.

Launch at Login is off by default. BackDrop registers to open at login only when you enable it in General settings.

Subscriptions

Apple handles subscription purchases, billing and restores. BackDrop uses Apple-verified subscription status to determine access to its features. You do not need a separate BackDrop account.

Your choices and saved wallpapers

Choose which content appears on your wallpaper and which sources it uses. Apply Wallpaper saves the selected display’s composition. Closing the window or quitting discards unapplied wallpaper edits.

Turning off a source permission does not erase screenshots or other copies of an already generated wallpaper. To stop displaying personal information, remove it from your wallpaper and apply the updated composition.
